Founded in 1989 by Simon and Richard Sales, Waterwell was born from a plant-first philosophy. As sons of John Sales, the National Trust’s Head of Gardens for three decades, the founders rejected the one-size-fits-all industrial mindset of golf course irrigation. They understood that a delicate rose garden requires a different watering approach than a fairway—a principle that remains today.
Simon and Richard then formed Landscapeplus, one of the UK’s leading distributors of professional irrigation and garden lighting. This 26-year partnership ensures every Waterwell project is backed by exclusive, industry-leading equipment and deep horticultural roots.
Fin has over a decade of experience at Waterwell, from a hands-on engineer to Managing Director. He now leads the firm owned by its senior engineers — a structure ensuring every project is driven by people with a personal stake in quality. Under his leadership, Waterwell focuses on three principles: client satisfaction, looking after its people and sustainability.
Nick has spent over four decades working in all types of gardens. He first worked with Waterwell over 30 years ago as a client, collaborating with founders Simon and Richard Sales as they pioneered professional irrigation in London. He later joined the leadership team as Operations Director, then Managing Director, helping grow the business into a market leader. Having handed day-to-day management to Fin, Nick continues as Non-Executive Director, supporting the team with mentoring and sustainability expertise.
